Meal Prepping Tips

Prepping your meals is one of the easiest ways to stay on track nutritionally. If you have made every meal you need to eat for a week, you will stay on track. Yet prepping all that food can be time consuming, and it’s worse if you don’t have everything you need. This article comes to the rescue with Meal Prepping Tips 101.

Tip # 1 - Pick A Day To Prep Your Meals

Sunday seems to be meal prep day for many people. It makes sense to get it all done before the week starts. Even so, you have to go with the day that works best for you. Some people work on the weekends, so make one of your days off meal prep day.

Tip # 2 - Make A Meal Plan, Then Make A Grocery List

Nothing is worse than going shopping and buying on impulse. So before you do anything, come up with a menu for the week. You can create your grocery list from that. Of course, your meals should be healthy, so avoid the aisles that feature junk food. Also, read the nutrition information no matter what you’re buying. You might be surprised at the sodium and sugar content of foods you would never think even had any.

Tip # 3 - Keep It Simple

Unless you’re an exceptional cook, go with meals you can make easily. For example, the bodybuilding standard of chicken and brown rice, or chicken and sweet potatoes makes sense. The chicken does not have to be bland and dry, you can do a lot with the right seasoning. For example, grill it and add chili powder for spice, or garlic and rosemary for a Mediterranean flair. Remember, you’re making meals in bulk, the process takes long enough as it is. Save any complicated or lengthy recipes for a one-off meal when you have more time.

Tip # 4 - Do You Need Any Equipment?

Nothing is worse than buying food for a recipe and then realizing you don’t have the right equipment. Or, maybe it is the right equipment but it’s not in great shape. Buy the equipment you need to do the job right. That includes your knives and a cutting board, as well as a blender, food processor, and anything else you need, like tupperware containers to store your meals.

Tip # 5 - When It’s Time To Prep, Prep!

When it’s meal prep day, don’t put it off, get going! If you delay, the day will be running out before you know it. Get it over with early, then you can enjoy the rest of your day. Once you have your meals prepped, store them in tupperware (or something similar). Finally, keep your recipes organized and save them either in a notebook, your phone, tablet or laptop.
